ST. CLAIR'S SENSATIONAL '75-76 SEASON

Forty years ago this past spring, the defending conference champion St. Clair College Saints of Windsor, Ontario brought home their only CCAA championship banner.

In the regular season, the Gerald (Jerry) Serviss coached team won all 20 games outscoring the opposition 207 to 45. The Saints led the league averaging 10.35 goals for and 2.25 goals against per game.

In the playoffs, St. Clair defeated Fanshawe 5-2 and 6-3 in divisional action. At the conference championships, St. Clair outscored Algonquin 8-2 and Humber 11-2 to capture their sixth of 10 provincial championships.

At the CCAA Hockey National Championships in Camrose, Alberta, the Saints made their second consecutive appearance in the championship final. St. Clair downed Cape Breton 10-4 in the semi final and Selkirk 11-2 in the final to become the first of two national champions from Ontario.

In the process, St. Clair became the fourth men's varsity post secondary team in North America to go unbeaten and untied in the regular season and post season en route to a national title following in the footsteps of the 1962-63 McMaster University Marlins (CIAU), 1969-70 Cornell University Big Red (NCAA Division I) and the 1972-73 University of Toronto Varsity Blues (CIAU). The 1983-84 Bemidji State University Beavers (NCAA Division II) and the 1984-85 Northern Alberta Institute of Technology Ooks (CCAA) have since joined the exclusive club.

The Saints are the ninth most successful program in CCAA history with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals in four national championship appearances.
