CCAA AWARD WINNING CANADA GAMES ALUMNI

Six hockey players who received CCAA individual awards are Canada Winter Games alumni.

At the 1975 Canada Winter Games in Lethbridge, Alberta, a 20 year old hometown defenseman received a gold medal when Alberta was triumphant.  Two years later, Ken Klinkhammer became a CCAA Tournament All Star and a CCAA champion with the Red Deer College Kings. The Lethbridge resident is the only CCAA individual award recipient to be a member of national champions at the Canada Winter Games and the CCAA National Hockey Championship.

At the 1979 Canada Winter Games in Brandon, Manitoba, Douglas King would don a jersey for Newfoundland who would place 10th of 11 teams. The right winger was honoured as a CCAA All Canadian while he was playing with the Seneca College Braves during the 1982-83 campaign.

At the 1983 Canada Winter Games Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, Quebec, an Alberta defenseman and a pair of Nova Scotia forwards took the ice on teams that would finish fifth and seventh respectively.  Richard Burton of the University College of Cape Breton Capers and Jamie Bartman of the NAIT Ooks were selected as CCAA Tournament All Stars in 1985.  Todd Caldwell of the University College of Cape Breton Capers was a CCAA All Canadian during the 1986-87 campaign.

At the 1995 Canada Winter Games in Grande Prairie, Alberta,  a 17 year old left winger from Wainwright, Alberta received a silver medal in his home province.  Travis Tipler would be named as a CCAA Academic All Canadian in 2000-01 with the NAIT Ooks.

The 2019 Canada Winter Games are in Red Deer from February 15th through March 3rd.
